Daria Pavlova Daria Pavlova is an artist based in Ulan-Ude, Buryatia. Working primarily with slow-shutter photography, she turns to loneliness, vulnerability, and silence as enduring subjects. Her practice traces inner tension and the rift between interior and exterior worlds, often resolved in silhouettes and restrained abstraction.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Everything begins with silence. With an inner pressure I hide behind outward calm. Abstraction becomes the language of this state; in my work it takes shape as fluid yet fractured lines—like an impulse that finds no release. Silhouettes stay blurred, half-concealed, like a memory or a premonition.
I have looked at the world this way since childhood. I grew up in an era of upheaval, when adults had to think only of survival, and I was left alone with the silence of an empty house. Loneliness was not a tragedy; it became the medium in which I learned to speak with myself through images. Those childhood conversations with silence have become my visual language today.
I work as a witness, catching the moment between who we appear to be and who we are when alone with ourselves. I deliberately leave the figure unfinished, vulnerable, so that in that understatement each person might find themselves—their own experience. My work is an invitation into a space where being oneself—even lost, even silent—is not something to fear.
