Naomi Miller is an American painter and multidisciplinary artist from San Francisco, now based in Barcelona, Spain. Working primarily in oil on canvas and linen, her practice explores the relationship between place, memory, perception, and lived experience. Drawing from travel, personal observation, and everyday environments, Miller’s paintings examine fleeting moments of beauty, intimacy, and connection. Through expressive applications of paint, color, and light, she creates a sense of movement and atmosphere, exploring the space between what is observed, what is remembered, and what is felt.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work explores the relationship between place, memory, perception, and lived experience. Working primarily in oil on canvas and linen, I am drawn to ordinary environments and fleeting moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed. I use expressive applications of paint, color, and light to capture the movement and atmosphere of a place, often allowing the image to exist somewhere between observation and memory. Since moving to Barcelona, I have become particularly inspired by the Mediterranean light, the reflections and shadows of the streets, and the energy of everyday life. My paintings are an attempt to hold onto these transient experiences while remaining attentive to the present moment. I am interested in the feeling that a place can leave behind—the beauty of something familiar, the sensation of being fully present, and the quiet realization that the moment is already passing.
