I work mostly in acrylic, on a big scale, usually around a metre square, because I like the way a large canvas makes you slow down and actually stand in front of it. I didn't come to this through art school. I came to it through painting a lot, getting things wrong, and figuring out what worked as I went. There's no plan when I start a piece. No sketch, no colour scheme decided in advance. I just begin, and the painting tells me where it wants to go. I use metallic pigments in a lot of my work, so pieces shift depending on the light and where you stand.
