ZaZa Herzet

Sandra Herzet is a Belgian visual artist and owner of ZaZart. Alongside a 24-year professional career in IT, she has been developing her artistic practice since 2017, where structure and logic gradually gave way to intuition, material exploration, and emotional expression. Her artistic journey began with charcoal, ink, and pastel drawings. Between 2017 and 2021, her work focused on subtle ink lines combined with charcoal to explore contrast, tonal depth, and suggestion. This period laid the foundation for her ongoing interest in line, surface, and the unspoken.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Sandra Herzet is drawn to abstract visual expression that blends strong lines with tactile, textured surfaces, inviting viewers into open‑ended moments of interpretation. Her artistic path has been shaped by a long struggle with perfectionism, gradually giving way to an embrace of imperfection, emotion, and intuitive creation. As she explored materials such as charcoal, ink, water, bistre, modeling paste, and acrylic paint, she learned to surrender control and respond instinctively. Inspired by artists like Derek Overfield, Marlene Dumas, and Rainier Boidin, she developed the series Maskerade, Storm, and The Masked Unveiled for the 2025 Inner Storm exhibition, works that delve into inner conflict, hidden identity, and the pressure to remain unseen under societal expectations. Rather than impose meaning, Sandra Herzet invites viewers to pause, observe, and feel—whatever her work stirs within them.
